Background

Four members coming from 4 different countries created EASE. There is of course an explanation about the reason why those organisations, and no other ones, decided to create EASE. At the very beginning, the idea was proposed by EOSE - the European Observatoire of Sport and Employment - in the framework of a European project. In fact, different researches about social dialogue in the sport sector in Europe demonstrate that only 3 countries have the experience of negotiation of a National Collective Agreement at national level. The 3 employer organisations coming from Sweden, the Netherlands and France involved in those agreements met each others in different meetings and realised that they shared the same idea of the sport sector at national level. Therefore, they decided - with the English employer organisation (SkillsActive) - to create EASE on 22nd January 2003 in order to defend at European level the identity of the sport and active leisure sector as a whole. At European level, sport and active leisure must be understood as a whole sector or branch gathering different sub–sectors together (not-for-profit sport, professional sport and active leisure) which are making its diversity and also its identity.

  • Common characteristics
All the members share the same expectations concerning social dialogue at European level. Today, they focus on learning from each other. They expect to have contacts with other countries in order to share experiences, in the management of issues for instance. They also expect to discuss with trades unions about some common issues, which can be solved at European level.
They are all optimistic about the chance of success in EASE which will be demonstrated by the creation of a Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for sports. But, all are very aware that it would be possible only with the political and financial support of the European Commission.
When the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee will be created, all the members evoke the same topic of discussion : education and training. More...

European social dialogue in professional football

The employers' side is complemented by the European Club Association (ECA). Given the specificity of sport governance, the social partners have invited UEFA to chair their dialogue.
